China's nonwovens industry will enter a period of rapid development

Apr.03.2020

The non-woven fabric industry is considered to be a sunrise industry in the 21st century, and it is currently developing rapidly. In 2000, the Asian region has reached an annual output of 900,000 tons. In the past five years, the output of China's nonwovens industry has increased at an average annual growth rate of more than 15%, and its total output has now ranked first in Asia. The main characteristics of non-woven fabrics are the penetration of high and new technologies and the use of new materials. They are widely used in construction, medical, environmental protection, clothing, automotive, and aerospace industries. They are important industrial textiles. Compared with products of the same purpose High value-added and high-efficiency competitive advantage.
In recent years, the growth rate of the world's nonwovens demand has always been higher than the growth of the global economy, so it is reasonable to believe that China's nonwovens industry has greater growth potential in the future. Steady macroeconomic growth has provided protection for increased domestic demand. On the one hand, the increase in domestic consumer income will effectively drive the consumption of various hygienic absorbent products and air filtration materials, medical and health supplies, and labor insurance and cultural and sports supplies; on the other hand, the domestic construction scale is very large, such as the Three Gorges Project and Xiaolangdi Engineering, environmental protection engineering, western development, and infrastructure construction will greatly promote the consumption of geotextiles, filter materials, waterproof materials, and packaging materials.
The rapid development of the domestic chemical fiber industry provided raw material support. In recent years, as the upstream industry of the non-woven fabric industry, the domestic chemical fiber industry has developed very rapidly. In 2000, China's total chemical fiber output was 6.94 million tons, and it was the world's largest chemical fiber manufacturing country. Among them, polyester and polypropylene developed the fastest, and the proportion of differentiated fiber also rose to nearly 20%. Therefore, China's rapid development of non-woven fabrics already has considerable raw material support.
Accession to the WTO will play a certain role in promoting it. According to the relevant WTO provisions, from the WTO accession to 2005, China ’s import tax rates for two-thirds of chemical intermediates and manufactured products should be reduced to the harmonized tariff level, that is, 5.5% for intermediates and 6.5% for manufactured products. The tariff implementation period for some of the manufactured products has been extended to 2008. At present, the general import tax rate and preferential import tax rate of China's synthetic fiber raw materials are as high as 35.5% and 13.37% respectively, and there is much room for reduction. Therefore, after the entry of WTO, as the price of imported chemical fiber drops, China's nonwoven fabric industry will benefit from the cost of raw materials. According to the WTO's "Trade-Related Investment Measures Agreement" (TRIMS), China will open up its investment field to a greater extent. The increase in foreign investment and product transactions will promote the development of China's nonwovens industry in technological upgrading and structural adjustment.
